Cypress Bay is excited to welcome you to the 2024 Mu Alpha Theta March Regional Competition (Region V)!
Information about the competition follows. If you are an experienced school, everything is pretty much the same as it is every year, but half an hour earlier than usual. If you are new to this, please feel very welcome to email [email protected] with any questions you have. Ari is really enthusiastic about MAO and is genuinely happy to help. There are no silly questions.
Postmarked deadline for the completion of registration is February 17, 2024.

We will be offering speed and mental math tests. Speed Math will be offered during round 1 and Mental Math will be offered during round 2. A maximum of three students from each school can take speed math, and a maximum of three students from each school can take mental math. They cannot be students on your bowl teams as this is an event for students to do while their friends are taking the team round. Ahead of time, you may want want to decide which students will take these tests. An unlimited number of sponsors from each school can compete in each. Students and sponsors participating in the mental math competition must have a pen. No exceptions.
All buses must enter through Gate #5 (THIRD ENTRANCE OFF VISTA PARK) to drop-off students. This is NOT the first entrance to Cypress Bay. YOUR BUS WILL GET STUCK IF YOU USE THE FIRST ENTRANCE. Buses may park in the student lot in Gate #3 after drop-off. All cars should park in the student parking lot at Gate #3.
Please bring your printed enrollment list from famat.org with the participating competitors’ names and ID#s highlighted. Be sure to highlight the ID ending in 1 for team members and the ID ending in 0 for competitors not on a team. When you arrive at the school, hand in the form at our registration desk.
Students must bring scantrons to use for the individual tests (print from https://famat.org/downloads/). They will need to have their FAMAT ID bubbled. Pre-bubble your scantrons.
Registration is open from 7:30 AM to 8:45 AM at the administration office. Cypress Bay students will point you in the right direction upon your arrival.
Round 1 will run from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM. Individual: Precalculus, Calculus, Algebra I Team: Geometry, Algebra II, Statistics Speed Math - 9:15 AM to 9:40 AM
Round 2 will run from 10:45 AM to 12:15 PM. Individual: Geometry, Algebra II, Statistics Team: Precalculus, Calculus, Algebra I Mental Math - 11:00 AM to 11:20 AM (bring a pen)

Pay for food and drinks by separate check (payable to CBHS Math Booster Club) or cash on the day of the competition. PLEASE DO NOT ADD YOUR PIZZA/DRINK MONEY TO YOUR REGISTRATION CHECK!
Our booster parents will also be selling drinks and snacks on campus throughout the day.
We will have an interschool test that students and adults may work on throughout the day. A tradition of our competition is to include on this test trivia questions about the schools competing.
